Extension with a focus on Upper Austria

We published new documents, which mainly provide company and personal data about the state of Upper Austria, on ZEDHIA on 17.04.2019.

The digital State Library of Upper Austria made the scans on which this publication was based available free of charge, and they are therefore available free of charge and without registration to all visitors to our portal. The same applies to the indices and tables of contents of all works presented on ZEDHIA.

The new documents are primarily address books, which collected data on persons, houses and companies in Upper Austria. They focus on Linz, the state capital, but also cover some smaller towns and the whole state. The earliest dates are from the 14th century. For example, page 28 of the citizens book (Bürgerbuch) for the Ried im Innkreis market town contains a transcribed entry from 1372 naming a certain Wernhard Fischerleitner.

A great deal of information can be extracted from various series of address books about the former inhabitants of Linz, and this enables exact research about former inhabitants, addresses and enterprises in the Upper Austrian state capital.

A list of all books in this extension to the collection can be found in ZEDHIA’s blog at: https://zedhia.at/de/zedhia-blog/Neue-Inhalte-mit-dem-Schwerpunkt-Oberosterreich
